What is the foundation?
The Estancia Valley Classical Academy Foundation (EVCA Foundation) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. The foundation was established in 2012 with the founding of the school to provide facilities and as a way to accept funding from outside sources according to NM State Laws governing Charter Schools. In essence, the Foundation serves as the “landlord” for the buildings and grounds and assists in raising money for non-operational needs of the school. We are a way for the school to raise money when needed, but otherwise operate as the caretaker of the school building and grounds. More than just maintenance, this gives us opportunities to help make improvements to the school.
Who can join?
Anyone can join, whether they have a child at the school or not. We currently have three voting members, the bare minimum as required by the bylaws, but are looking for more to help us with our responsibilities. We accept and appreciate all volunteers, in particular we would love someone with some kind of accounting background.
What kind of commitment is it?
We currently meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm, on Google Meet. If anyone is interested in attending they will use this link: HERE , which is also found on the main page of our website. Holding a meeting in person at the school can also be an option if that is preferred. The meetings only run about an hour, and no money is required. At the meetings we discuss foundation funds, and allocate those funds to help meet the school’s needs. We do not decide, or have any impact on, school policy or curriculum. If we need further funds to meet our goals, we organize and hold fund raisers.
Should you volunteer with the EVCA Foundation?
Volunteering with the EVCA Foundation is a great way to support our school when you don’t have a ton of time to give. The meetings are kept short and occur once a month. You get to bring your ideas forward on ways to maintain or improve school grounds/classrooms, and different options for raising funds when needed to complete those projects!
