Team Requirement: Cars must be built and submitted in pairs. Pairs may include two students or one student and an adult.
Car Eligibility & Build Requirements
- Cars may be built from any Pinewood Derby-style kit purchased from Amazon, Hobby Lobby, etc., as long as they meet the size and weight requirements.
- Maximum length: 7 inches. Maximum width: 2.75 inches. Minimum bottom clearance: 3/8 inch.
- Track clearance between wheels must be at least 1.75 inches.
- Maximum weight: 7.0 ounces. Weight will be measured on the official scale.
- Only gravity-powered cars are allowed. No motors, magnets, propulsion systems, bearings, or springs.
- Wheels may be lightly sanded but not significantly altered. Axles may be polished or lubricated.
Team & Submission Rules
- Cars must be built in pairs. Pairs may be two EVCA students or one student plus one parent.
- Each pair may submit one car only.
- Cars must be submitted at the official check-in before the race on race day. Weight will be measured on the official scale prior to racing. If the car does not meet regulation standards, alterations may be made quickly and the car re-weighed and checked in.
Race Day Rules
- Cars are placed at the starting gate by race officials only.
- Re-runs occur only in the case of interference, track malfunction, or judge decision.
- Good sportsmanship is required at all times.
- Awards may include Fastest Car and Best Car Design.
Disqualification
- Cars failing to meet size, weight, or materials rules may be disqualified at the discretion of race officials.
- Any cars offensive in nature or not in keeping with EVCA standards will be disqualified and will not be allowed to compete.
