Ms. Michelle Markham

Student Services Instructor

Ms. Markham grew up in upstate New York and moved to New Mexico in 2002. She got her Associates in Radiologic Science from Pima Medical Institute in 2008. She moved to the East Mountains in 2012 and started working at EVCA in 2017, where she worked in various roles before completing her Bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education at Western Governors University in 2021. After a short departure, Ms. Markham returned to EVCA in January 2025 as a Special Education Teacher and completed her Master’s in Special Education from Eastern New Mexico University in May 2025. She enjoys reading, learning new things and spending time with her 2 daughters, Arianna and Abby.

Mrs. Emily Marquez

Mrs. Emily Marquez

Physical Education EA

Emily Marquez was born, raised and currently resides in the East Mountains. She attended The University of New Mexico studying dance. In 2010 she acquired ownership of a dance studio in Edgewood, NM. For seven years she was owner, operator and head instructor teaching many styles of dance to all ages. During this time, Emily directed and staged thirteen performances including the Nutcracker Ballet and Peter Pan. Emily also directed a competitive dance team, winning many awards such as “Best Choreography” and “Dare to be Different.” In 2018 she sold her business to become a stay at home mom. In 2022, after her youngest son started Kindergarten Emily started working at EVCA as a substitute teacher. In March of 2023 she became an Educational Assistant in Physical Education. Emily will continue in this current position. Emily is married and has three boys, two of which attend EVCA. She loves reading, gardening, camping, traveling and volunteering at church.

Mrs. Sara McCarty

Mrs. Sara McCarty

Sixth Grade Instructor

Mrs. McCarty has lived in New Mexico for six years and loves living in the East Mountains. Teaching is her third career, with the first in Human Resources for a Social Services Organization and the second staying home with her two children until they were school age. Working with people, especially children, has always been a focus in her life, with an early start as a summer camp counselor in her teens. She earned her B.A. in Mathematics at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and has completed her graduate courses for her Elementary and Secondary teaching licenses through Eastern New Mexico University. She enjoys spending time with her husband and children while hiking, camping, reading, and traveling to see family and friends.

Mr. Patrick McManis

Custodian

Mr. McManis (aka “Mr. Patrick”) was born in New Orleans and a touring musician for 25 years. He’s played in pubs across Europe and in venues in 48 states, including Mexico & Canada. Mr. McManis enjoys hiking with his dog, making mead, and camping with a local Norse reenactment group. He is most proud of his 3 adult children and new granddaughter, Gia.  Mr. McManis and his partner moved to NM in 2020 and are very happy to be here!

Mrs. Amy McMurtrey

Mrs. Amy McMurtrey

Science Instructor

Amy has a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Governors University in  Science Education. She first started to work at EVCA as a substitute teacher in 2019.  She then became an Educational Assistant in the Special Education Department helping students in the science and math department in 2020. She has always loved the sciences and was tutoring college anatomy at Utah Valley University in the late 1990s. After getting back into teaching she decided to finish her Bachelors in Science Education. She feels grateful to have been mentored by some of the best science teachers who have worked at EVCA as she was working on her degree. ( Mrs. Erickson in Biology, Mrs. Theiry in Chemistry and Mr. Theiry in Physics.) She received her Associates in Science from Utah Valley University in 2001.  She then worked as a Dental Assistant for several years before she started a family.  She is a mother of 6 children, two of them have graduated from EVCA, the other four are still currently attending EVCA.

Mr. Dennis Milinazzo

Mr. Dennis Milinazzo

Fourth Grade Instructor

Mr. Milinazzo has many years of experience under his belt, including: 18 years of teaching 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Grades. 8 years of Project Management and Computer Maintenance as a civilian contractor with the United States Military inn Virginia Beach, Virginia and at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. 5 years of Project Management and Computer Maintenance as a contractor with CenturyLink/US Communications in Albuquerque, NM 7 years of Project Management and Robotics Maintenance as a contractor with Intel Corporation in Rio Ranch, NM. MS Degree in PE, MA Degree in Education, BSBM in Business Management.

Mrs. Jessica Nandino

Mrs. Jessica Nandino

School Nurse, RN

Jessica Nandino earned a BA in Psychology and Spanish in 2005, and a RN degree in 2009. Mrs. Nandino is ecstatic to be part of the EVCA team and is enjoying her second year working as the school nurse. Previously, she worked throughout New Mexico as an Emergency Room and Helicopter Flight Nurse.  Her most fulfilling job is raising her three kiddos, all students at EVCA.  In her free time, she enjoys working with her husband and children on the family’s hobby farm, gardening, sewing, and writing short non-fiction.

Mrs. Valerie New

Mrs. Valerie New

Third Grade Instructor

Mrs. New has been teaching for twelve years. She graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a bachelor’s degree in general education and Special Education. Mrs. New has been married for 35 years, has 2 children and 4 grandchildren. She loves to read books, travel, go fishing, camping, motorcycle rides, and watching drag races.

Mr. David Nuckols

Mr. David Nuckols

History & Literature Instructor

David C. Nuckols received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Science from NMSU and his Master of Arts in Ancient History from UNM. As part of his M.A. program, he spent three years studying ancient Hebrew and Jewish culture as a student of Rabbi Isaac Celnik. In his first career, David worked for 34 years as a Criminal Investigator with the District Attorney’s office in Albuquerque, the last 25 of these years were in the Family Crimes Unit, where he specialized in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. During this time, he consulted with the American Prosecutors Research Institute to write a national handbook for prosecutors and investigators of child abduction cases. He also worked for Fox Valley Technical College and the US Department of Justice for six years, training law enforcement agencies throughout the country in the investigation of child abduction cases. During this earlier career, David also worked part time for Brigham Young University teaching high school, college and adult continuing education courses. Mr. Nuckols came to EVCA 11 years ago and has taught classes in Western Civilization, Modern European History (both dual-credit courses for CNM), American Government, Economics and Modern Literature. Mr. Nuckols and his wife, Kim, enjoy gardening together when he is not busy collecting and reading rare books and organizing the Albuquerque Antiquarian Book Fair. They have four children and 5 grandchildren and have been married for 43 years!

Mrs. Theresa Nuckols

Grammar School EA

Mrs. Nuckols has been involved in the EVCA community since her oldest son started 1st grade at the school in 2016. She’s volunteered in the classrooms since that time and started as a Student Services EA last school year. She is currently working in a 2nd grade classroom as an EA and loves her job and students!

She grew up in a small town in New Mexico and met her husband Nate while attending UNM. She graduated from UNM with her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and has used that degree in different jobs and capacities throughout the years.
Her greatest joy has been raising her three children. Her oldest son is a freshman at EVCA, her daughter is in 6th grade and her youngest son is currently in 2nd grade.
She loves to craft in her spare time and enjoys painting peg dolls for her Esty shop, crocheting and making jewelry.
