Below you will find a description of EVCA’s supports and resources provided to students at each tier of our Attendance Success Plan. For more information regarding our Attendance Policy, please see the policy found here.
EVCA Tier 1: While absences for specific reasons (listed in our policy on our website) are accepted as excused, such absences must be balanced with the fact that a student must be in the educational setting in order to acquire the knowledge that is necessary to be educationally competent. Parents are strongly encouraged to exercise care with their student’s absences and to have the goal of keeping the student in the classroom as often as prudently possible. EVCA understands that the best environment for students to thrive academically is in the classroom. Students are not allowed to make up work for unexcused absences. Robocalls are sent daily for any absences. Tier 1 is applicable up to 5%.
EVCA Tier 2: Staff contacts parent/guardian and student(s) at scheduled unexcused absence data points, i.e. 5-10% of allowable absences for the school year. Efforts are made to understand the individual’s situation and to counsel on the importance of daily attendance. Expectations for attendance and consequences of unexcused absences are expressed in a culturally sensitive and respectful mode and in the students’ home language when necessary.
EVCA Tier 3: Staff contacts parent/guardian and student(s) at scheduled unexcused absence data points, i.e. 10-20% of allowable absences for the school year. Efforts are made to understand the individual’s situation and to counsel on the importance of daily attendance. Staff requests in-person parent meetings. Expectations for attendance and consequences of excessive absences are expressed face-to-face in a culturally sensitive and respectful mode and in the students’ home language, when necessary.
EVCA Tier 4: Staff contacts parent/guardian and student(s) at absence levels over 20% of allowable absences for the school year. The EVCA Governing Council is notified, at a regularly scheduled meeting, of the circumstances where they determine further appropriate action.
